Moment Birmingham Gunman Opens Fire at People in the Street

Shocking CCTV Captures Moment of Attack

A Birmingham man who fired a gun at a group of people in broad daylight has been jailed for five-and-a-half years. Chilling CCTV footage showed Desie Dalton-Byrne raising a firearm before shooting on Chudleigh Road, Erdington—the street where he lived.

No Injuries Reported Despite Gunfire

West Midlands Police confirmed that despite the gunfire, no one was injured in the attack. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Dalton-Byrne, 21, was arrested last September in connection with the incident, which took place on July 25.

Arrest and Court Proceedings

Dalton-Byrne pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition without a certificate. He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on March 6.

A police spokesperson said: “A gun was fired at a group of people at around 6.30pm, although no one was hit. The motive of the shooting has never been revealed. Following extensive CCTV enquiries, we recovered footage showing Dalton-Byrne fire the gun and flee the scene. The firearm was later located in the garden of an address in Low Wood Road.”

Firearm Recovered and Offender Jailed

The discovery of the weapon led to Dalton-Byrne’s swift arrest and subsequent conviction. West Midlands Police hailed the sentencing as a significant step in tackling gun crime in the city.

Det Insp Matt Marston from the Major Crime Unit said: “Firearms and drugs play a significant role in criminality on our streets. It persistently erodes communities, ruining lives and blighting communities. As a result of this discovery, we’ve taken a deadly weapon off the streets, and an individual with direct access to it is behind bars. We hope this sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who might consider engaging in similar criminal activities.”

Dalton-Byrne will now serve his sentence behind bars as police continue their work to tackle gun-related crime in Birmingham.
