Quiet Scottish Town Turns Into Major Crime Scene After Bones Are Discovered in Garden

Shocking Find in Dumfries Garden

A police investigation is underway after a bone was discovered in a garden in Locharbriggs, Dumfries. The discovery was made on Tuesday morning when a pensioner, who had been digging in his garden, came across the remains.

Police Presence at the Scene

Police were alerted to the scene on Auchencrieff Road at around 10.10 am and have maintained a presence at the property since. Officers erected a forensic tent in the back garden while conducting their investigation, with a number of police vehicles still stationed at the property on Thursday. Residents in the area have been left unsettled by the discovery, as forensic officers continue their work. A local described the atmosphere as tense, stating, “You don’t expect something like this to happen on your doorstep. It’s unsettling not knowing where the bone came from or how long it’s been there.”

Forensic Examination Underway

Police Scotland confirmed that the bone is being treated as “archaeological” in nature and that officers are expected to be stood down from the scene soon. However, further testing will be carried out to determine its age and origin, which could take several weeks. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing to examine the recovery.”

History of the Property

It is understood that the house where the discovery was made was built approximately 35 years ago. The current homeowner has lived at the property for the past two years and reportedly had no previous concerns regarding the land.

Awaiting Further Updates

While speculation continues within the community, police have assured residents that the situation is under control and that updates will be provided once further analysis of the bone is completed.
