Hiker’s Body Found In Remote Welsh Wilderness
A set of human remains discovered by chance in the Brecon Beacons has been formally identified as a man who vanished without a trace more than six years ago. The breakthrough ends one of Wales’s most enduring missing persons cases and brings a measure of closure to a family who never stopped searching.
Vanished Without Warning In 2019
Jordan Moray, from Cwmbach in Rhondda Cynon Taf, was reported missing in July 2019. The then 32-year-old had left his home unlocked, his phone charging, and his PlayStation still on when he disappeared—sparking immediate concern. His mother went to check on him and found the house empty, with no signs of a struggle. What followed was a massive search involving police, mountain rescue teams, and even appeals on national television.
Despite repeated public appeals, searches across mountainous terrain, and sightings that never led anywhere, Jordan seemed to have vanished into thin air. His disappearance left family members clinging to hope while fearing the worst.
Discovery Made By Member Of The Public
Earlier this month, a walker came across what appeared to be human remains in a remote area near Llwyn-on Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The location is rugged, heavily wooded, and difficult to access—factors that may have contributed to why Jordan was not found earlier. South Wales Police confirmed the identity of the remains this week and said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
The area is about 30 miles from where Jordan was last seen, raising questions about how and why he ended up so far from home without being detected for so long.
Family Finally Have Answers
Jordan’s brother, Josh Moray, paid tribute to him in a statement, calling him “my best friend” and describing the news as heartbreaking but also a relief. “We can finally bring Jordan home and lay him to rest,” he said. “This has been six years of pain, wondering every day where he might be, if he was safe, or if we’d ever see him again.”
He added that the family was grateful to everyone who helped in the search over the years and asked for privacy as they process the news and begin funeral preparations.
A Case That Gripped A Community
Jordan’s disappearance had drawn widespread media attention in Wales, with posters, social media campaigns, and television appeals issued over the years. Despite the time that had passed, hope never fully faded for those who knew him. The unusual circumstances—his house left in order, no signs of distress—led to speculation and confusion that only deepened as time wore on.
While the mystery of what exactly happened to Jordan may never be fully solved, his family now has the one thing they’ve waited years for: an answer. The Brecon Beacons, once a symbol of painful unknowns, has now given up its secret.
