A major police investigation is underway in the West Midlands after a woman was seriously injured in a shooting in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called to a property on Priory Road, Dudley, at 12.16am following reports of gunshots. Two rounds were fired at the address, and officers arriving at the scene discovered a woman suffering from serious injuries.
Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service responded quickly, supported by a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car dispatched from Cosford. The woman was stabilised at the scene before being rushed to hospital under emergency conditions. Her condition remains serious but stable.
West Midlands Police have cordoned off a section of Priory Road as a forensic investigation gets underway. The force has confirmed that a search is ongoing to trace the gunman responsible.
In a statement issued this morning, a spokesperson for the police said:
“We understand the concern in the community that this incident will raise. Officers will remain in the area and carry out reassurance patrols. Our investigators are carrying out enquiries to identify who’s involved.”
Detectives are appealing to the public for any witnesses or anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been confirmed, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Residents in the area have expressed concern, with one local describing the scene as “chaotic” in the aftermath of the shooting. “It’s frightening to know something like this can happen on your doorstep,” the resident said.
