Thieves Get Instant Karma After Trying To Break Into Chelsea Jewellers

Smoke and locals send raiders running
Two would-be robbers got more than they bargained for when they tried to smash their way into a luxury jewellers in Chelsea — only to be forced into a hasty retreat by smoke and angry onlookers. The brazen daylight attempt happened just before 5pm on Draycott Avenue, a busy high-end shopping street near Sloane Square.

Foiled by Fog Bandit system
The masked pair, riding a moped and armed with a sledgehammer, targeted Posh Pawn — a store known for selling luxury watches and designer items. As they tried to batter through the reinforced door, a thick cloud of security smoke blasted out, filling the entrance and catching them off guard.

Witnesses said the raiders panicked, stumbling backwards into the street before speeding off on their bike.

Builders and shoppers step in
Footage from the scene shows stunned shoppers watching as the failed robbery unfolded. Local builders rushed to the scene, shouting at the suspects and checking on staff inside the shop. “They didn’t look like professionals — just chancers,” said one witness. “When the smoke came out, they completely lost it.”

TV pawnbroker speaks out
The shop is owned by James Constantinou, star of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn. He praised his staff’s quick response and confirmed that no one was injured during the incident. “We’ve got strict security in place, including a vacuum room and Fog Bandit system,” he said. “It worked exactly as it should. Everyone inside was safe.”

He added: “This is the first time one of my shops has been hit, but it’s becoming a regular problem across London. Something needs to change.”

Jewellers targeted in recent spate
The robbery attempt comes amid a rise in moped and bike-related crimes across the capital, particularly in wealthy areas. A nearby security guard said phone snatches and attempted shop raids are becoming “a daily issue.”

Police confirmed they were called to the scene and are now reviewing CCTV and social media footage. No arrests have been made so far.

Police appeal for witnesses
Officers are urging anyone who saw the incident or has mobile footage to come forward. A spokesperson confirmed that the suspects wore helmets and balaclavas and escaped before officers arrived.

The shop remained closed the next day, with staff said to be shaken but unharmed.
