The killer behind one of the UK’s worst child murder cases is at the centre of a new prison investigation after launching a shocking attack on a prison officer.
Boiling water thrown in targeted prison assault
Axel Rudakubana, 18, doused a prison officer with boiling water in a violent outburst on Thursday, it is understood. The officer was taken to hospital and later discharged the same day. The Ministry of Justice has confirmed the incident and said the matter is being investigated.
Violence in prisons ‘will not be tolerated’
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Violence against our hardworking staff will never be tolerated. We will always seek the toughest possible punishment for any prisoner who attacks an officer.” The incident, first reported by The Sun, has reignited urgent calls to address the safety of prison staff nationwide.

The attack comes just weeks after Manchester Arena bomber Hashem Abedi launched a brutal assault on officers at HMP Frankland using hot oil and improvised weapons. New data shows assaults on staff in adult prisons across England and Wales have reached a ten-year high.
Justice Secretary promises taser trials and reviews
In response, Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood has confirmed a taser pilot scheme in some prisons and a snap review of body armour use for prison officers. However, the Prison Officers’ Association says far more is needed to address what it calls a “full-blown crisis”.
Rudakubana jailed for Southport dance class massacre
Rudakubana was jailed for a minimum of 52 years in January after murdering three children at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport. He also attempted to kill eight more, including a class instructor and a local businessman who tried to stop him.
A public inquiry into the massacre is ongoing.
