A speeding driver who killed a flight attendant while driving over 120mph on the M2 has been jailed for more than 12 years.
Sensenal Amaglo, 42, crashed his Mercedes C-Class into 58-year-old Heidi Lee Locke’s Nissan Qashqai as she was on her way to work at Heathrow Airport on November 27, 2022.
Dashcam footage from Amaglo’s own vehicle captured him overtaking cars at excessive speeds on the London-bound carriageway before colliding with Ms Locke between junctions 6 and 5. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency services arrived quickly but were unable to save Ms Locke, who was described by colleagues and friends as a “beautiful”, “loving” and “caring” person. She had worked for United Airlines and previously Pan Am.
Tributes and heartbreak
Teresa Delafons, a fellow flight attendant, said: “She was always up for a laugh and kept us all entertained on our flights across to the USA. She will be missed by all who knew her.”
Ms Locke lived in Broadstairs, Kent, and had been travelling to begin a shift when she was killed.
Justice served
Amaglo was arrested at the scene and initially denied causing death by dangerous driving, but later changed his plea.
He was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to 12 years and three months in prison. He will serve at least eight years and two months before being eligible for parole. Upon release, he will be banned from driving for 10 years.
A separate charge of causing death by careless driving while unfit through drink or drugs was ordered to remain on file.
Detective Constable Sara Capozzi of Kent Police said: “Amaglo’s driving that morning was truly appalling and resulted in the most tragic of consequences. I hope the custodial sentence gives him time to reflect on the devastating impact of his thoughtless actions.”
She added: “I would also like to thank the witnesses in this case, whose testimony helped ensure a dangerous driver was taken off the road.”
