Two Toddlers Seriously Injured in Savage Dog Attack in Merseyside

Horror in Prescot as boys, aged two and three, mauled at house

Two young boys have suffered serious injuries after being mauled by a dog in a shocking attack in Merseyside.

Emergency services raced to Johnson Avenue, Prescot, at around 4pm today after reports of the terrifying incident.

The two toddlers, aged just two and three, were rushed to hospital with severe leg and arm injuries. An 18-year-old woman was also hurt in the attack.

Dog seized as police launch investigation

Photos from the scene show police cars and ambulances lining the street as officers sealed off the area.

Merseyside Police confirmed the dog involved has been seized from the property. Detectives are now trying to establish the breed and track down the owner.

Chief Inspector Phil Thompson said: “This is a shocking incident that has resulted in two toddlers being taken to hospital with serious injuries. We are still in the very early stages of the investigation. Officers remain at the scene to carry out witness and CCTV enquiries.”

Rising fears over dog attacks in the UK

The horrifying incident comes as the UK continues to battle rising concerns over dog attacks. Last year, hospital admissions due to dog bites hit record levels. According to NHS data, more than 9,000 people were treated in hospital in England alone in 2022 after being bitten or struck by a dog.

Recent years have also seen several deadly incidents involving dogs. In September 2023, the government announced a ban on the American XL Bully breed after a string of fatal attacks. Just weeks later, in Sunderland, a 54-year-old man was killed by his pet dog in another tragic case.

Police appeal for witnesses after attack

In the wake of today’s incident, police have stepped up patrols in Prescot to reassure worried residents.

Chief Inspector Thompson urged locals to come forward with information: “If you witnessed the incident or have any relevant CCTV or doorbell footage, please contact us as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via DM @MerPolCC on social media, call 101 quoting log 729 of 1st May, or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
